| DownEast Fleamarket 2009 Halifax, NS The fleamarket was held on Saturday, May 9th, 2009 and was fairly well attended this year with a good number of tables offering a large variety of treasures and trash for sale. There were no commercial vendors as there were in past years. As usual, between 9 and 11 am was the busiest time for both buyers and sellers. Business was brisk at many tables until late morning. Sellers had arrived early and prepared their tables between 6 and 9 am. Buyers were permitted to enter at 9 am after a $4.00 entrance fee and the attachment of an orange or green wrist band. Door prizes were drawn for throughout the morning and ticket numbers were announced over the PA system. Even 'yours truly' won a small bag of goodies from RAE Electronics! Peter, VE1SM operated the Old Timers' Club Information and Application Table passing out the new OTC brochure and other literature. Between 15 and 20 Old Timers signed the guest register. Rick, VE9RWS brought down some club gear which had been donated, by Johnny, VE1JJC to our club. This was for sale and was looked after by Rick. Brad, VE1ZX had a table set up with two MSR 2000 Repeaters which were for sale. These attracted a lot of interest throughout the morning. Jim, VE1CHI had four tables, one of which was used by Bernie, VE1PT. Jim managed to fill the other three with his gear and some from friend, Dave, who came in with Jim. WARC club members seen at the fleamarket were: Rick VE9RWS, Brad VE1ZX, Peter VE1SM, Ron VE1AIC, Abbie VE1BFB (evening social only) and Jim VE1CHI. Below are some photos taken throughout the morning by Brad, VE1ZX and Jim, VE1CHI and some photos taken by Brad, VE1ZX during the ham social evening the night before. At the bottom are some photos of Brad's antenna at his home QTH where one of the elements became vertical instead of horizontal. Brad used a four wheeler ramp in order to reach and fix it. No photos of Brad standing on this ramp ...seems Abbie could not look up in case he fell. Thankfully he did not! ~ 73 de VE1CHI, Jim, WebGuy |
