| WARC Booth - Community Fair - Amherst Stadium - May 2008 |
| Saturday, May 31st 2008: We had a good turnout on Saturday at the WARC Booth at the Community Fair at the Amherst Stadium. Peter (VE1 SM) Lloyd (VA1 MAB) Rick (VE9 RWS) and Ron (VE1 BIC) were on hand in shifts from 10-3. Brian (VE1 BSD) also stopped by, and we talked to Brad (VE1 ZX) on 2m. We had Peter's old HF rig as a static display, but the 2m mobile was on the air using an antenna outside in the side driveway. A highlight of the day was a contact with Australia via IRLP. ( Lloyd worked him..maybe he has the call sign ?) On the laptop we ran the Tonight Show bit that featured CW vs Text Messaging. A code keyer was also in operation. Club Brochures and Newsletters were also handed out. Peter (VE1 SM) provided candy. The older couple pictured was Gerry and Money Martin and daughter Geraldine of Amherst. Money recalled that many years ago when her brother was posted in the far north at a weather station, the only means of communication wth him was by HF radio. Her parents in Halifax were able to make contact with her brother with the help of the late Brit Fader (VE1 FQ). 73 Ron VE1 BIC |
