| While on holidays in Cape Cod during April 2010, Jim VE1CHI (OTC # 327) and his wife Nancy had a chance to visit the site of Marconi's Wireless Station (the first in the USA) from which Teddy Roosevelt, the US President, sent a 48-word message to King Edward VII on January 19th, 1903. Due to the erosion of the sand banks over the years, the only thing remaining of the station and antenna is one of the cement support blocks which was one of the many guy wire attachment points for the four towers. There is a plaque, written description and a model of the station and antenna. See the photos here. This site took me by surprise as I was not aware of its existence until we just came upon it. A serendipitous moment! The plaque says the transmission took place on the 19th and the write-up says it was the 18th. Perhaps Teddy started sending just before midnight?
