| Springhill Hospital Repeater Work February 2010 |
| Here are some pictures of the new VE1SPH repeater going in to All Saints Hospital, Springhill, NS. As you can see I had to modify the rack as it was too narrow for the repeater. Some of the pictures show the new welds and how much I had to widen the rack. Not much, about 3/4 inch. Also had to drill and tap all the bolt holes to 1/4 inch to install all the equipment: Duplexer, Repeater, Link Radio, Grounding Bar and tray for the power supply. By the way that is my power supply so Jim (VE1AFH) we will have to get one for this project. You will notice the three coat paint job, Hospital white Hi Hi. There is some tweaking to be done to the link radio and the programming to be put in the controller thanks to VE1MR, Bill for the new programming. Thanks to Ron VE1AIC for tuning the duplexer. Lorne VE1BXK and myself did the modification and tuning to the MSR-2000 100 watt repeater. This project is just about ready to be installed in its new home. This site is in the penthouse of the Springhill Hospital and one of the highest sites in Springhill with backup power. The site is around 600 hundred feet above sea level so it should cover most of Cumberland County and surrounding area. It will have a UHF link to the hub UHF repeater at the Sugarloaf Repeater, VE1BHS. We still have to make up a support for the antenna system as they do not want anything bolted onto the building, We have a plan for this and have some of the material that will be needed. Will keep you posted later. ~73 de VE1ZX, Brad Ross. |

| The New VE1SPH Repeater in Brad's (VE1ZX) Basement |
Report from Lorne, VE1BXK regarding the VE1SPH Repeater: Programmed RC210 new file from Bill VE1MR (thanks Bill). Found too much TX audio level was being fed into GE Phoenix TX AF input causing high level of distortion and noise floor in repeated audio to port 2 of RC210. Adjusted TX pot port 2 lower of RC210 and then adjusted TX level higher on the Phoenix link radio for proper balance. Unit is complete and ready for site installation. |
Allan Peck who works in maintenance at All Saints Hospital let us in the penthouse at the hospital where Lorne and I did some interference checks from where the new repeater is to be located. Several photos show some of the existing communications equipment that is there now. They are not using these services and one of the services is turned off and the other two are on stand by as they are using a new digital system at a different location. We did have a look at the view from on top of the roof of the penthouse and were really impressed. We could see Sugarloaf, Parrsboro and Lynn Mountain. Lorne and Brad also took a few pictures and thanks to both you can now view them here. |

| The VE1SPH Mast Bracket |
Here are some pictures of the new bracket that I built to install on the penthouse roof of All Saints Hospital in Springhill. ( New Amateur Repeater Freq.146.805 - VE1SPH ) The aluminum grating is 4' X 3', the stainless steel plate is 15"X15" bolted on with eight 3/8" SS bolts. The mast stand is 20" long all 316 stainless steel so no rust. The mast is a piece of Sch. 80 aluminum pipe 10' long to mount the antenna which is a Sinclair 210C2. This will be weighted down with cement blocks as they do not want anything bolted to the building or through the roof. This project will tie all the hospitals and fire departments in Cumberland and surrounding areas together via Amateur Radio. We have everything together and hope to install the repeater, roof bracket and antenna next Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010 weather permitting. ~73 Brad, VE1ZX. |

| The VE1SPH Repeater and Antenna Installation - 8th April 2010 |
These photos are of the new repeater (VE1SPH) at All Saints Hospital in Springhill,NS. Brad Ross VE1ZX and Jim Hannon VE1AFH, spent the afternoon on top of the penthouse installing the new roof bracket and ballast, VHF antenna and UHF link antenna. The VHF antenna is a Sinclair Srl 210C2 and the UHF antenna is a Sinclair SY307-SF2SNM with a frequency of 430-450 MHz. The UHF antenna will link to the hub repeater at VE1BHS, Sugarloaf. There are two 50 foot runs of heliax left to do. Thanks go to Lorne VE1BXK, Rick VE9RWS, Ron VE1AIC, Jim VE1AFH and Brad VE1ZX. This repeater will tie in all of the hospitals and fire stations in Cumberland County and all have back up power. |

| Additional Photos of the Heliax Installation at the VE1SPH Repeater Site - 12th April 2010 |
The VE1SPH Repeater is on the air! Give this new repeater a try, VE1SPH Repeater 146.805(-) located in the penthouse of All Saints Hospital in Springhill, NS. There is a UHF link over to the hub repeater at Sugarloaf, VE1BHS. On code 130A off code 131A. Here are some photos I took before I left today. I ran two runs of heliax from the antennas to the repeater. I have some weather sealing yet to do around where the heliax goes into the building. ~73, Brad VE1ZX. |
